JRI host the launch of the MIHR® - March 2008

On the 17th March 2008, JRI hosted the launch of the MIHR® system. A large crowd of surgeons, doctors and engineers gathered at the Royal College of Physicians to witness the delivery of this concept to the world.....

On the 17th March 2008, JRI hosted the launch of the MIHR® system. A large crowd of surgeons, doctors and engineers gathered at the Royal College of Physicians to witness the delivery of this concept to the world.

Speakers included Mr G.S.Chana F.R.C.S. Ed Orth, describing the MIS system from an operative technique point of view, and Mr V. Johnson of Hull University to speak about Total Hip Replacement, and its relevance today.

Engineering research into the use of the implants in patients was presented by two professors of Tribology, from Loma Linda University, California. They touched upon subjects such as the wear of Metal on Metal joints and their relative success rates. A rigorous questions and answers session between the audience and the speakers was followed by a dinner where the speakers could talk to those interested parties in more detail.

Comis Orthopaedics and JRI today celebrate the successful culmination of a collaboration unveiled in 2006; the distribution in the UK by JRI of the Minimally Invasive Hip Resurfacing (MIHR®) system, manufactured by Comis.....

Comis Orthopaedics and JRI today celebrate the successful culmination of a collaboration unveiled in 2006; the distribution in the UK by JRI of the Minimally Invasive Hip Resurfacing (MIHR®) system, manufactured by Comis. The MIHR® was designed and conceived by Mr G Chana FRCS and the design team at Comis with the specific objective of creating a truly minimally invasive solution to Hip Resurfacing. The MIHR® is also available for open surgical approaches.

Comis, new to the orthopaedic market, required a distributor with a substantial and credible market presence in the UK. JRI's experience and success with, amongst other products, The Furlong® Total Hip Replacement made it the perfect partner. Meanwhile, JRI needed a strong product for entry into the heavily competitive Hip Resurfacing market. The MIHR®, with its innovative operative technique and solid implant design, was the ideal choice. With the MIHR® in its portfolio, and its modular head compatibility with the highly accredited Furlong® Femoral Stem, JRI is able to offer an extremely competitive total hip system to the market.

An early decision was made that JRI would coat the Acetabular component of the MIHR® with its proven Supravit® coating, combining the benefits of H-A.C. coating with Metal-on-Metal articulation. Working in close collaboration for the past 12 months from their adjacent South Yorkshire facilities, JRI and Comis are delighted to announce that the MIHR® is now available for a limited clinical release.
